Les mers intérieures au Negresco, Nice, France

Four gold panels on the theme of the oceans are on display in Nice at the Negresco until August 31, 2025. I created them especially for the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Oceans, which is being held in Nice at the invitation of France. These works have found a setting in the Salon Royal, Rotunda of this legendary hotel, listed as a 20th-century heritage site.

The Persian poet Farid-ud-Din’ Attâr tells us

We are worlds. As in the begining of time, we never stop separating top from bottom, oceans from land and ourselves from our animal natures. When we are fulfilled, it is only to be drowned again by the flood, and later to flee our slaveries across the Red Sea split in two.

It’s these fluctuations that I explore. In the continuity of the Réfléchissements panels, the gold is the color of our skin if we were to look at it from within ourselves. The inks are these parting seas. And the words sail with my thoughts, or with the Old Testament. They capture shattered and re-configured truths before they drown in new transformations.

PS 2 : I’m going to be a resident at the 1st edition of LABA Paris. This residency, created in 2007 in New York, is also present in Berlin, Buenos Aires, San Francisco and Barcelona. This year, it opens in Paris and London. LABA, in its own words, perpetuates the literary and intellectual tradition of Judaism in a free and creative way, to nourish contemporary reflection and bring out new perspectives. The theme of this first French edition is change.

As you know, my practice is already based on the founding texts of the first monotheism.
