Panneaux Or
The gold panels are suspended between light and matter. They are not surfaces, they are the insides of our bodies.
The Persian poet Farid-ud-Din’ Attâr, tells us
“Having drunk whole seas, we remain quite astonished
That our lips are still as dry as beaches
And always seek the sea to dip them in without seeing that our lips are the beaches and that we are the sea”
We are worlds, and as in the first days of times, we never stop separating top from bottom, the oceans from the land, and our animalities from each other. And when we are accomplished, it is only to be drowned again by the flood, and later to flee our slaveries across the split Red Sea.
These paintings explore these fluctuations. Gold is the color of our skin, if we were to look at it from within ourselves, the inks the parting seas and words.
This series, begun in 2024 for the installation Réfléchissements, traces a living material: inks as red as ancient blood, spontaneous writings or taken from Hebrew texts. The gold pulses, crossed by red veins and words. Each panel is an entity, a vibration. They resonate with the creation of our worlds.
The exploration continues on the theme of inner seas, with. Gold Panels 7, 8, 9 and 10 created for the 3ᵉ summit on the oceans-no longer of the body, but of the soul as it traverses. The brilliance of gold becomes a mirror, that of a being questioning its own fulfillment.
